What do the Canucks have to do with weddings? Let me tell you about what we saw….
Last Saturday, as I am sure you are all well aware, the Canucks played Game #2 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. At one point during the game the camera zoomed in on one of the suites…at a bride wearing her wedding gown, holding her flowers, cheering on the Vancouver Canucks!
This led us to thinking…all couples want their wedding guests, who can range in age and interests, to be entertained.
Last Saturday was unique and we are aware of at least a couple of weddings that had set up a television so that people could follow the game.
Other than a Playoff Game, what are some of the ways that brides and grooms keep their guests entertained?
For children:
If you have children at the reception you can have a goodie bag packed especially for them based on their interests. A coloring book and crayons, or a couple of toy cars can go a long way to keeping smaller children occupied. If there are more than a couple of children it might be nice to have an area set up for children that would include a coloring station or even a television with a couple of movies. Some of our brides have even talked about bringing in babysitting so that parents can have an opportunity to hit the dance floor. These are just a couple of ideas, but at the end of the day children will want to dance too and feel a part of the festivities. If your reception includes dancing expect to see a couple of kids on the dance floor!
For adults:
To get the adult guests in the party frame of mind, we have also heard about some creative ideas! Couples have taken the traditional clinking of glasses and have come up with much more creative ways to have the bride and groom share a kiss. Singing a song that contains the word ‘Love’ in it, sinking a putt on a temporary green, answering a trivia question related to the couples’ courtship are making new traditions. If you are looking for other ideas, here are some thoughts.
Kissing for a cause: If you are supporters of a specific charity, kiss when guests drop a donation into a basket specifically decorated for this purpose.
Candy kisses: With a covered container filled with silver and gold Hershey kisses, guests reach in and reveal a kiss. Silver denotes no kiss, Gold the happy couple shares a kiss, not the chocolate kind!
For the more unconventional:
If you have guests that don’t know their fellow tablemates, it can be harder to break the ice and get everyone in the party mood. Some couples have chosen to bring in entertainment to break the ice. Perfect conversation starter. Funny thing is, in the cases we know of, the entertainment was arranged by the parents of the bride. Although the intentions are good, we do not recommend this, unless you know that the bride and groom enjoy surprises! In one case, during dinner, circus acrobats and jugglers began performing on the dance floor. At another wedding the dinner hour included a magician walking from table to table doing card tricks that would delight adults and children alike. How is that for a conversation starter?
Be creative, leave your mark on your wedding day as it will be memorable for everyone.
As we all know, the main thing that will keep everyone enjoying themselves is quite simple….Good Friends and Family!
Enjoy your Weddings!
